Happy Memorial Day!

Making a simple suggestion that may create big change - start to substitute the word “need” with “want.”

It’ll go like this: I want a bigger condo. I don’t NEED a bigger condo.

I want to expand my impact through my work. I don’t NEED to.

After a Phish show during the summer of 2000, I was sitting outside journaling (#stonermoment) and wrote, “Never Need, Always Want.” Think about the impact - if we’re always aware of how much abundance already exists in our lives, we are never in need. AND, we continue to want, we strive for more, we create more abundance, there’s more to be grateful for, more love.

It stuck with me. Like a message from the Music Gods. (insert eye roll OR rage-on)

I was in a session with a friend/client last night when she said, “I need to start working out more.” I asked her to swap the magic words and say it out loud again. “I want to start working out more.”

Set yourself up for success!

When someone tells me I NEED to do something, my knee-jerk response is to say NO. I’m like a 3 year old with a “don’t tell me what to do” attitude. If someone WANTS me to do something, I’m happy to consider it.

One of my aunts recently went from telling me I NEEDED to run with only 1 headphone to wanting me to take a headphone out for safety. Turns out, I’m not going to take the advice, but I paused!!!! I even explained why I didn’t see it as necessary instead of rolling my eyes. Progress!

Check these out:

I need to get a new job. I want to get a new job.

I need to make more money. I want to make more money.

I need to lose weight. I want to lose weight.

Start paying attention to where you are telling yourself what you need to do and try to change it up. Let me know what you’re changing and how it makes a difference for you. Xx, Lizzi

PS. The “sales department” wants me to tell you about a few fun events coming up at Lizzi Cutler Enterprises. Feel free to reply with any questions.

PPS. Listen to me chat about what I do, why I do it and how it all came to be on these podcast episodes that came out this week:
